Today I had the pleasure of guiding Mecx and his wife on a private day tour in Chiang Mai, exploring the best temples, markets, mountain villages, and scenic viewpoints this amazing city has to offer.

Wat Phra Singh – A Chiang Mai Temple Classic

We started the day at 8:30 AM with a hotel pickup and headed to Wat Phra Singh, one of the most iconic temples in Chiang Mai, located in the heart of the Old City. Known for its stunning Lanna-style architecture and the sacred Phra Singh Buddha, this 14th-century temple offered a peaceful and culturally rich beginning to our tour.

Discovering the History of Wat Chedi Luang

Our second stop was the majestic Wat Chedi Luang, a historic temple and former home of the famous Emerald Buddha. Though partially damaged in an earthquake, its towering structure still commands attention. We hoped to join a Monk Chat—a unique Chiang Mai experience—but no monks were available at the time.

Local Life at Warorot Market in Chiang Mai’s Chinatown

Next, we explored Warorot Market, located in Chiang Mai’s Chinatown. This colorful and vibrant market is a must-visit for anyone interested in local life, filled with fresh produce, spices, fabrics, and handmade goods. It’s a great place to discover the daily rhythm of the city.

nto the Hills: Hmong Village and Scenic Viewpoints

Leaving the city behind, we drove up Doi Suthep mountain to visit a traditional Hmong hill tribe village. Nestled in the mountains, this village gave us insight into the Hmong people’s culture and way of life. On the way, we stopped at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking Chiang Mai, where we enjoyed the cool breeze and stunning scenery.

Northern Thai Cuisine: Khao Soi on the Mountain

No visit to Northern Thailand is complete without trying Khao Soi, the region’s signature curry noodle soup. We had a bowl at a small local spot on the mountain—flavorful, comforting, and the perfect mid-tour meal.

Iconic Chiang Mai Temple: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Next was the highlight of any Chiang Mai temple tour: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Sitting high above the city, this sacred site is famous for its golden chedi, naga staircase, and breathtaking views. It’s not just a temple—it’s a symbol of Chiang Mai.

Peaceful End at Wat Umong

We ended our Chiang Mai day trip at Wat Umong, a forest temple known for its mysterious underground tunnels and tranquil, shaded location. It was the perfect way to wind down after a day filled with culture, nature, and meaningful moments.

At around 3:30 PM, I dropped Mecx and his wife back at their hotel, happy and fulfilled after a memorable Chiang Mai private tour.
